The Asbury Revival: When You Lay Hold of God Never Let Go!

Many years ago, a very old man who experienced a revival when he was younger, was asked why the revival ended. His eyes were filled with holy fire when he cried, “When you lay hold of God, never, never, never, never let go!” Let this be a warning as well as a reminder to never let go.

Break Up the Fallow Ground
Are we welcoming this type of downpour in our churches and positioning ourselves for a downpour of God’s Spirit, or are we extinguishing it because of pride, sin, doubt, and unbelief? It’s time to break up our fallow ground and seek the Lord while He still may be found (Hosea 10:12). We provide the sacrifice; He provides the fire.

Waiting and Expecting
Do we really believe that all of this evil will simply reverse itself? No, it’s only going to get worse unless God’s people pull down heaven. It’s time to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted. We must cry out, “Oh God, would you rip heaven open and come down?” We must wait on God and seek Him like never before, because “He acts for the one who waits for Him” (Is. 64:4).

Asbury Revival: Personal Reflections

A small group of us arrived at Asbury University on February 15, at 10:30 AM, exactly seven days from when the revival began. One-hundred sixty-eight hours to be exact. The school is no stranger to visitations from God. The first one recorded happened at the turn of the 20th century with the most recent on February 3, 1970.

Wilmore, Kentucky is like any small, rural college town. The backcountry roads from the interstate to the campus created an atmosphere for our time with God. One of the guys with me said, “The school is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by farmland and open fields as far as the eye can see.” It reminded me of how Jesus developed his disciples away from the hustle and bustle of big towns like Jericho and Jerusalem and opted for the countryside in anonymity and obscurity.

Revival Is a Climate Change

I am a product of the Jesus Movement. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, the winds of revival blew across America. With revival, came a climate change.

In a land that was consumed with riots, an unpopular war and hatred, revival changed a generation. In many ways, it saved us from a revolution.

Out of that movement came many revival leaders (people who were saved and later became pastors, missionaries and church leaders). Hundreds of thousands were baptized in those days.

I believe we are seeing the initial answers to prayers that have been offered up to God for decades. Those of us with firsthand experiences of revival are praying, “Lord, do it again.”

Asbury Revival Fire Spreads; Lee University Reports ‘A Mighty Move of God’

A revival fire that started at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, and continues six days after it began (Feb. 8), has now spread onto Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, according to several reports, including eyewitness accounts. The Lee University revival began on Monday (Feb. 13).

“What’s happening at Asbury is not and will not remain confined,” Lee University Campus Pastor Rob Fultz, Ed. D., tweeted late last week. “It will, and already is awakening the deep wells of revival on campuses across the nation. They have been churning, pressing against the seals that have kept them hidden, and they are about to burst with new life.”

On Monday, Fultz reported on Twitter: “A mighty move of God started this morning at Lee and it has been building throughout the day. We are approaching the 10th hour, nothing but voices in prayer, worship, and repentance.”

Asbury Revival: Will Believers Recognize Its Legitimacy?

The Asbury University newspaper reads: “Very few seats remain empty, but people crowd the walls, the floor and the balcony. It’s been almost 60 hours since a pure Holy Spirit revival broke out.”

Others declare they have never seen the student chapel with so many people. It started in a normal chapel service where there was a confession of sin by a student and 30 people stayed behind to seek God.

As we browse social media and look up hashtags such as #asburyrevival, one cannot miss all the criticisms, judgments and doubts of what is happening. The critical voices seem to be very loud shouting over some of the rejoicing by others.

The services have not been four or five hours long, but virtually non-stop for the last 60-plus hours. Some are decrying “emotionalism.” This sort of thing is not just breaking the mold, but making a lot of people feel uncomfortable or convicted!
